The key to a good portrait is capturing the natural personality and beauty of the person. But with everyone being different, requires patience and creativity as well as the technical knowledge of lighting and exposure – which is why I find portrait photography so inspiring.
I prefer to work outdoors using natural light (assisted with additional lighting if required), at a location which allows you to feel both relaxed and comfortable. This is even more important where children (or even pets) are concerned. We may start at the home and then drive to a park, woodland or even the coast.
If a more formal studio style photograph is required – no problem. We have our very own studio in Haddenham, near Thame or can create a studio environment at your home or office.
Before the shoot we’ll discuss the importance of clothing – what works and what doesn’t for the camera. After arriving at the location, I find it beneficial to get to know everyone (maybe over a coffee), how the location and clothing ideas will work, and so on, before starting the shoot. Once everyone is feeling relaxed and ready, we will spend time taking photographs as we walk and explore the location.
It’s important we not only get the photographs, but that everyone enjoys the experience as well. As a portrait photographer it’s important to put people at complete ease in front of the camera. I will always involve my subjects in the shoot by giving them feedback based on what they can see on the back of the camera if they wish. To me there is no script, it is far better to let the session evolve naturally.
It’s my aim to provide you with a great experience with stunning photography and service to match.
